Sergeant 'boasted he could turn lesbian soldier'
By Richard Savill
A lesbian soldier was pestered for sex by a male sergeant who claimed he might be able to turn her "straight", an employment tribunal has heard.
Lance Bombardier Kerry Fletcher, 31, was sent a text by the sergeant telling her she should have "a real man … someone like me," the hearing was told.
The sergeant allegedly added in another text: "Look I might be able to convert you. You don't know what you are missing."
Miss Fletcher is claiming sex discrimination and discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation at the hearing in Leeds.
She has left the regiment, claiming officers made her life a misery after she ignored the sergeant and complained that she was being victimised.
The tribunal heard Miss Fletcher was the first woman to ride with the King's Troop and paraded for the Queen's Birthday and Trooping of the Colour.
In summer 2004 she joined a regiment in North Yorks, which cannot be named for legal reasons, to work in the stables.
Despite being openly gay and in a relationship, Miss Fletcher was pestered for sex by the male sergeant, who cannot be identified under a legal ruling, the hearing was told.
Miss Fletcher told the tribunal: "I was panic-stricken and embarrassed. He was my boss. I thought this was completely out of my control."
He also allegedly invited her to have a threesome with himself and another female officer, Miss Fletcher claimed.
