Well I am doing the Analysis of the Civil Partnerships Bill transcripts from 2004 in the Seanad. As Usual there are some gems in the convos which the transcripers have collated.

The Oireachtas now has an RSS feed

For those junkies of politics out there, the eDemocracy unit of Leinster House has started an RSS feed of the Agenda of the week within the houses of the Oireachtas. Now whilst it is still in its "experimental stages", it is great to see that I can now put the RSS feed for the agenda for the week in my Google Reader and view it, without having to go to the Oireachtas site-Yes I am that lazy but there are times when I forget to go and check, so at least this way I know I have no excuse considering it will be in my Google reader. You can subscribe to the RSS feed via here and they are looking for feedback from the public about expansion of the service.

Landmark ruling in transgender privacy case

In a landmark ruling Judge Liam McKechnie has found that Dr Lydia Foy, a transgendered person, has had her privacy breached by the lack of legislation allowing her to change her identity on her birth certificate.

Judge McKechnie pointed to legislation provisions in other EU countries that allow for a change of identity on official documents and that the lack of such provisions in Ireland was counter to Article 8 of the European Convention of Human Rights.

Judge McKechnie also ruled that an order stating that Dr Foy's privacy has been breached must be placed before the Houses of the Oireachtas within 21 days of the wording of that statement being finalised.

It is anticipated that this will lead to debate and possible legislation change concerning the privacy of transgendered people.
